Hiding in plain sight, Haddiscoe Island in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, is an empty, remote and wild land,  seemingly a world away from the popular tourist areas of the Broads National Park that surround it. Formed at the tidal confluence of the Rivers Yare and Waveney, by the building of the New Cut canal in 1832, the triangular inland island is only accessible from the small riverside village of St Olaves, where we begin and end our walk.
Our journey takes the form of a twelve mile loop around the island's 800 hectares of grazed marshland, alongside reed beds, still cut by hand, taking in huge skyscapes, a Roman fort, a 13th century priory, and of course the scattered wind pumps and cottages that tell a social history of the land and its former residents.
We will hope to see Chinese Water Deer, Otters, Marsh Harriers, Short Eared Owls and flocks of geese and wading birds; and some of the varied plant life on the marshes and down to the water's edge. Come and travel with us towards long East Anglian horizons, on seldom walked trails.
Itinerary:
We meet at the Bell at St Olaves (W3W camps.blank.guests) between 09.00 and 09.30.
After a quick safety briefing we begin our walk.
The walk is approximately 19km (11.8 miles) long, largely flat but with some uneven and overgrown sections.
Our pace will be relaxed!
Guiding is in a small group of no more than 8 people by an experienced local guide.
Dog tickets are available for this walk but dogs must be under their owners control at all times.
For those guests that prefer to walk without dogs present, please contact us using the enquiry button, about our dog free dates.
The walk concludes back at the Bell Inn at approximately 16.30 with the opportunity for a debrief over drinks at the inn as a gesture of economic support to the local community.

As a condition of joining, the incoming participant must agree to the participation statement below.
Deferrals:
We're sorry but we cannot accept deferrals to a later event. While we sympathise with participant's individual circumstances, we cannot indemnify against injury, illness or other unfortunate situations in private life prior to the event. The bottom line is that booking fees for a given event are already heavily invested very early in the planning process (e.g. booking guides, support team, advance payments for transport where used, insurance etc) Deferrals in effect cost us twice the amount in event costs – once for the event deferred from and once again for the event deferred to, which is not sustainable.
Insurance:
If the ability to join is of concern to a participant, we recommend taking out personal cancellation insurance. Legally, we cannot legally advise or guide you on cancellation policies or their details.
Participation Statement:
I understand the nature of the event. I agree that I enter the event at my own risk and take full responsibility for my own safety and actions during the event. I do not hold John Figiel or any, employees, support workers, volunteers or agents responsible for any damage or injury sustained to me, my property or any third-party injury caused by me during the event. I do not have any medical condition that would deem me as a medical risk during the event.
Our guarantee to you:
Inclement weather is to be expected with hill walking and outdoor activities. And while we often enjoy blue skies and sunshine. We're not afraid of rain and wind, which has been a feature of many memorable grand days out with a sense on achievement at the end.
However, if the event has to be cancelled in advance due to severe weather or countryside incidents such as foot and mouth, we offer a choice of:
1) Full refund
2) Transfer to a walk at a later date
3) Credit to the value of your payment to use on any of our other walks
