Hi I'm John, a Mountain Training qualified hill and moorland leader, and ambulance first responder, working primarily on outdoor event, challenge walks and sporting safety teams. In addition I have been guiding clients (and sometimes their canine friends) on both bespoke and open booking walks across landscapes I have come to know and love from many steps taken moving through their varied, dramatic and awe inspiring vistas.
Originally from the PeakDistrict, I've spent a number of years living in East Anglia, but am now back amongst the hills I love, in Buxton. I'm a keen amateur botanist, a forager and wildlife lover, a walker, trail runner and climber, and have an inquisitive interest in social history and folklore. I feel able to offer the different insights and perspectives these interests bring to your journeys, whether traversing The Peak District, Norfolk Broads, Suffolk Coast, Yorkshire Dales, North Yorks Moors or the Cheviots, amongst other stunning areas of the UK.
All our walks come with relaxed, friendly chat and a sense of camaraderie, the reassurance of safe , well navigated and assessed routes, and the professionalism and skills you would expect when placing your trust in our hands.
I hope to see you soon.
Booking Policy
All Bookings are provisional until confirmation from by the provider by Email.
Cancellation Policy
Custom Policy
Cancellations: I understand my booking includes a non-refundable deposit, 50% of the price paid per person for the event. If I choose to cancel up to 21 days before the event, I will be entitled to a refund of 50% price paid per person cancelling. If cancelling less than 21 days before the event, 100% of booking fee is due.
Substitutions: If I cannot attend an event, I understand I may substitute another person to take my place up to 48 hours before the event start, but will inform John Figiel of this substitution in writing by email/message. John Figiel is not party to any exchange of monies between the incoming and outgoing participant. As a condition of joining, the incoming participant must agree to the participation statement below. Deferrals: We're sorry but we cannot accept deferrals to a later event. While we sympathise with participant's individual circumstances, we cannot indemnify against injury, illness or other unfortunate situations in private life prior to the event. The bottom line is that booking fees for a given event are already heavily invested very early in the planning process (e.g. booking guides, support team, advance payments for transport where used, insurance etc) Deferrals in effect cost us twice the amount in event costs – once for the event deferred from and once again for the event deferred to, which is not sustainable. Insurance: If the ability to join is of concern to a participant, we recommend taking out personal cancellation insurance. Legally, we cannot legally advise or guide you on cancellation policies or their details. Participation Statement: I understand the nature of the event. I agree that I enter the event at my own risk and take full responsibility for my own safety and actions during the event. I do not hold John Figiel or any, employees, support workers, volunteers or agents responsible for any damage or injury sustained to me, my property or any third-party injury caused by me during the event. I do not have any medical condition that would deem me as a medical risk during the event. Our guarantee to you: Inclement weather is to be expected with hill walking and outdoor activities. And while we often enjoy blue skies and sunshine. We're not afraid of rain and wind, which has been a feature of many memorable grand days out with a sense on achievement at the end. However, if the event has to be cancelled in advance due to severe weather or countryside incidents such as foot and mouth, we offer a choice of: 1) Full refund 2) Transfer to a walk at a later date 3) Credit to the value of your payment to use on any of our other walks
