Highlights

Discover the bonnie Borders
Explore a land characterised by rolling hills, open countryside, and small towns full of local character. Visit enchanting abbeys, impressive stately homes, and castles. Find the same inspiration that moved writers such as Sir Walter Scott and John Bunyan.

Rosslyn Chapel, Midlothian
Be spellbound by the mysterious symbolism of ornate stonework that has inspired writers, artists, and visitors over the years.

Head to the Borders
Arrive at Melrose. Stop for lunch and sample some of the local produce in one of the many cafes. Afterwards, dip into one of the independent shops for a unique gift.

Admire some of Britain’s finest church architecture of the late 1300s at Melrose Abbey, built on a fertile spot by the River Tweed. Look out for the playful sculpture of the bagpipe playing pig.

Carry on along the Tweed
Kelso is a historic market town where the Tweed and Teviot rivers meet. The square with its Flemish cobbles gives the town a European feel. Take time to check out the ruins of the abbey and investigate the independent shops in the thriving town centre.

Floors Castle
The impressive stately home of the Duke of Roxburgh lies just outside Kelso. Enjoy the abundant flowers and plants in the Victorian walled garden.

Take a relaxing stroll through the woodland and along the river before hopping back in the cab and driving onwards to Selkirk.

Selkirk
This ancient burgh is situated above the Ettrick and Yarrow valleys. Walk around and investigate the narrow braes and wynds and let the unexpected views stop you in your tracks.

Hawick
The largest of the Border’s towns is famous for fine quality knitwear so why not treat yourself to a luxurious cashmere sweater made locally?

Meander along the High Street to see ‘the Horse.’ Learn the significance of this symbolic landmark during the annual common riding festival.
Glenkinchie distillery
Visit East Lothian on the return journey. Make a trip to Glenkinchie distillery, the Lowland home of Johnnie Walker.

Relax and enjoy a dram at the Victorian distillery and orchard gardens set within abundant farmland and sweet-scented wildflowers.
Then it’s time to return home.
Leave behind the rolling farmland and quiet country that belies a vibrant culture and thrilling history just waiting to be uncovered.
