VISITING THE MUSEUM OF LEAD MINING
The staff at the Museum of Lead Mining are committed to providing you with a safe and enjoyable visitor experience. While we are all learning to ‘live with Covid’, we continue to encourage visitors to wear face coverings indoors. Meanwhile, the following precautions remain in place. Please make sure you book an arrival slot and tickets in advance on our website. This helps us to monitor and restrict – if needed – the numbers of visitors on site. Sanitising stations will remain in place, at entry and exit points. Protective screens will remain at till points. Increased cleaning regimes are being maintained.
We have a timed entry to the Mine, Library and Museum to ensure that we can safely manage visitor numbers. All timed entry tickets should be pre-booked through our on-line ticket programme on our website or by telephone to 01659 74387. Small groups of up to twelve people can visit together. We may not be able to admit you if you have not pre-booked your ticket or if you arrive early or late. All payment is by debit or credit card, and contactless payment is preferred on site. Please note the mine is not suitable for children under 5.
Our ticket booking time is the start of your mine tour, after which you will be taken to the library for the next part before ending at the museum to wander around at your leisure. We then invite you to take a break at the tea room for some light refreshments. Your ticket is valid for the season which ends on the 30th September, so you are able to visit again at no additional cost.
On arrival... please make your way to reception to book in. We strongly recommend you wear a mask whilst inside the museum, unless medically exempt. We have put in place a weather protecting canopy for your comfort if you have to wait for entry. At reception you must present your pre-booked timed entry ticket, either printed or on a smart phone. Our staff will check you in and answer any questions that you may have. Please aim to arrive at the museum at the start of your timed slot. If you arrive before or after your slot, we may not be able to grant you entry. No-touch hand sanitizer stations are available throughout the museum. We operate a one-way system through the museum in the Visitor Centre marked by arrows on the floor.
Toilets... The public toilets beside the museum are managed by Dumfries and Galloway Council. Please notify a member of the museum staff if there are any problems.
If you have any symptoms of COVID... Please do not visit if you are unwell or have any symptoms suggestive of COVID.
We will, from time to time, be conducting visitor feedback as we wish to continually improve the visitor experience that we offer. We would appreciate your assistance with this.
