VISITING THE MUSEUM OF LEAD MINING COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES...
The staff of the Museum of Lead Mining are committed to providing you with a safe and enjoyable visitor experience.
We have introduced timed entry to the Mine, Library and Museum to ensure that we can safely manage visitor numbers and maintain physical distancing. All timed entry tickets should be pre-booked through our on-line ticket programme on our website or by telephone to 01659 74387. Small groups of up to ten people from three households, can visit together. We may not be able to admit you if you have not pre-booked your ticket or if you arrive early or late. All payment is by debit or credit card, and contactless payment is preferred on site. We will be asking visitors for contact details to assist with NHS Scotland’s Test and Protect when you visit our tea room. Please note the mine is not suitable for children under 5.
Our ticket booking time is the start of your mine tour, after which you will be taken to the library for the next part before ending at the museum to wander around at your leisure. We then invite you to take a break at the tea room for some light refreshments. Your ticket is valid for the season which ends on the 30th September, so you are able to visit again at no additional cost.
On arrival... All visitors will be greeted outside the museum by one of our staff and directed to the main entrance. You are required to wear a mask whilst inside the museum, unless medically exempt. If you have forgotten your mask, we can provide one for a small fee. We operate a traffic light system at the main entrance to manage visitor flows. We have put in place a weather protecting canopy for your comfort if you have to wait for entry. At reception you must present your pre-booked timed entry ticket, either printed or on a smart phone. Our staff will check you in and answer any questions that you may have. Please aim to arrive at the museum at the start of your timed slot. If you arrive before or after your slot, we may not be able to grant you entry. No-touch hand sanitizer stations are available throughout the museum. There is an enhanced cleaning programme in place. We operate a one-way system through the museum in the Visitor Centre marked by arrows on the floor. We ask you to comply with two metres social distancing.
Tearoom... All visitors to the tearoom will enter through the main entrance, leave details for Test and Protect, and follow the one-way system. You will be shown to your table, where your orders for food and drinks will be taken. We have a new outdoor dining area if this is preferred. In line with current Scottish Government guidelines, you must wear your face mask until you are seated at your table. Please note we are accepting card payment only, preferably contactless.
Toilets... The public toilets beside the museum are managed by Dumfries and Galloway Council. An enhanced cleaning program is in place. Please notify a member of the museum staff if there are any problems.
If you have any symptoms of COVID... Please do not visit if you are unwell or have any symptoms suggestive of COVID. Questions! Please feel free to ask our staff if you have any questions.
We will, from time to time, be conducting visitor feedback as we wish to continually improve the visitor experience that we offer.
