Our winter navigation workshop is designed to help people become more efficient in the winter environment, having a good framework for their navigation and being able to apply appropriate techniques while in challenging conditions to keep safe while saving valuable time and energy.
Any technical equipment, crampons, ice axe and helmet is included in price

Route planning, navigating through complex avalanche terrain
Techniques & strategies for 'white out' conditions, pros and cons of different methods
Techniques & Strategies to relocate
How to relate the map to ground and ground to map through contour interpretation
Measuring distance from the map, relating to the ground & vice versa; pacing, timing

Day 1

Cairngorms.
Day one will be finding what we have in the toolbox already, fine tuning those skills, providing a solid framework then we'll make things more accurate with contour interpretation, techniques for measuring distance and walking on bearing with accuracy.

Day 2

Cairngorms.
Day two we will look at strategies for being able to keep ourselves safe on the terrain we navigate on and how to relocate if we become disorientated. Also, techniques how to relocate including the use of a GPS.

    Wicking base layers, top & bottoms Goggles, double clear lens recommended Head torch, plus spare batteries Balaclava and neck gaiter

Cancellations

Custom Policy

  • Cancel before 31 days of your adventure and receive a 75% refund (minus payment processing fees).
  • Cancel within 30 days of the adventure with no refund.
  • Alternate dates may be able to be agreed at no additional cost, but this is not guaranteed.
