Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge

  • Location Yorkshire Dales
  • Price from £75.00

Highlights

One of the most popular one day challenge events in the UK, the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is a marathon distance hike across three mountains, with the aim of completing it in under 12 hours.
Although the annual “Three Peaks Race” will see top runners complete the route in sub three hours and the bulk of the field less than six hours to complete, a typical walking pace is somewhere between ten and twelve hours.
This challenge can be undertaken at most times of the year, but is clearly a serious undertaking in winter when a significant part of the challenge will be walked in the dark and quite possibly in the snow. Due consideration must be given to your fitness levels as this is an epic challenge.
This is perfect event to push yourself and test your limits in a full day walking adventure, whilst having the safety net of a professional guide to help you along the way.
Although dates listed are Saturdays, other days (midweek/weekend) can be available upon request, please contact us for details and to discuss your plans. We also offer days with support vehicles - handy for carrying those extra snacks and water you may need!

Itinerary

Starting in Horton in Ribblesdale (usually) in the limestone heart of the Yorkshire Dales the day comprises of ascending the three highest peaks in Yorkshire of Pen-y-ghent at 694m, Whernside 736m and Ingleborough 724m and of course walking between them. This is a route of 24 miles or just under 40km if you prefer! The exact start can be amended to suit itinerary as the route is circular. This is a long day – even at a brisk walking pace - however once you factor in the 5000ft / 1600m of ascent, the notion of “brisk pace” becomes less clear!
