Discover the beauty of the English countryside, the wild landscape of the North York Moors National Park and the stunning scenery of the Yorkshire coastline on this day trip by road and steam train. Visit the fishing town of Whitby, take a backroads driving tour through moorland and dales in the North York Moors National Park and finally ride a steam train from Goathland station - the location used as 'Hogsmeade Station' in the Harry Potter films.
ItineraryThe tour starts with a drive into the farming countryside north of York, travelling on quiet country roads as we head to the town of Helmsley. You'll have some free time to explore Helmsley before we continue our journey into the North York Moors. Your guide will take you on a backroads tour of the Moors, driving across the rugged moorland and through beautiful, unspoilt dales. You'll learn about the history, culture, geology and wildlife of the North York Moors National Park, taking time to stop for photos and to spot the amazing birds that live in this area. As lunchtime approaches we'll arrive in the coastal town of Whitby, the fishing town famous for its association with Dracula and Captain James Cook, as well as for its delicious fish and chip restaurants.
Leaving Whitby in the afternoon, we'll return to the Moors to visit the village of Goathland. The village was famously used as the setting for 'Aidensfield' in the long-running British drama series "Heartbeat". After a stroll through the village we'll reach Goathland Station, which was used as 'Goathland Station' in the Harry Potter films. Standing on the platform at Goathland, a steam train will sweep into the station and take you on an unforgettable journey through the winding valleys of the Moors.
Finally, from Pickering Station we'll re-board the minibus for another journey through the English countryside and back to York.
