Quaker Tapestry Museum

  • Location Kendal
  • Price from £5.00

Highlights

350 years of social history and Quaker stories are brought to life in more than 40 vibrant embroidered panels all housed within this architecturally stunning and original Georgian Meeting House.
Our unique and fascinating museum takes you on a journey through the Quaker influence on the modern world, exploring the industrial revolution, developments in science and medicine, the abolition of slavery, social reform, astronomy and ecology. Delight in the detail of the beautiful needlework and the craftsmanship involved in its creation. Made by over 4000 men, women and children from 15 countries, over 15 years, it’s a calm, serene and emotive experience for all.
Audio guides are included in the entry price, enabling visitors to fully appreciate and explore the stories behind these exquisite panels. We also have weekly embroidery demonstrations. And not forgetting the children, we have a selection of activity boxes filled with toys, dressing up clothes, games, colouring and drawing that they are free to play with and discover for the duration of your visit.
Gift shop & Café
Our lovely gift shop has exclusive Quaker Tapestry embroidery kits, embroidery wools and tools, unique gifts, home wares, accessories and much more.
The Garden Café serves brunch, lunch, hot & cold drinks and mouthwatering cake. Alternatively bring a picnic to enjoy in our Peace garden, with it's flowers, lawn and garden benches.
