Stoneycroft Ghyll Scramble never disappoints. Jumping, sliding and diving into beautiful emerald coloured plunge pools are the order of the day. The highlight for most is the option of jumping into the well-known ‘washing machine’ (if conditions and group ability permit).
For those who want a bit more, there is a lower section called Stoneycroft Gorge which cuts more deeply into the mountainside and has created a spectacular deep sided gorge with bigger waterfalls than those found in its upper reaches. In favourable conditions (when the water level is not too high), the gorge can be descended with a rope via a series of abseils or ‘lowers’. This can be done in addition to the top section, or as an alternative.
Typically, we will meet you in the Newlands valley at a time of your choice (see map below). We then get kitted up and get going. The start of the ghyll scramble is just a short 15-minute walk from the car park. The activity itself usually takes around 1.5 hours (up to 2.5 hours if the lower gorge section is included).
