Journeying in these Canadian style open boats is a fine way to enjoy Windermere from the water and to paddle around the small islands and bays off Graythwaite Estate’s private shoreline. We feel that no visit to the Lake District is complete without spending some time on the water and this is an ideal way to do just that. Hire may be your preference, rather than opting for an instructed session, if you have previous canoeing experience.
- Our 2 and 3-seater canoes are spacious enough for 2 adults and up to 2 small children, a bag and / or picnic.
- We require at least one adult (18+) in your party to be on the water.
- You can opt for 1 hour, 2 hours or 4 hours hire.
As with our other paddle sports, canoeing is available for an instructed experience or if you’re competent you can simply hire the boats by the hour to go off and enjoy your own adventure. If you opt for going it alone, we have watertight barrels available to carry any spare clothes, your camera and your picnic.
We may be biased but genuinely believe that we run watersports from one of the best locations in the Lake District; Grubbins Point on Windermere. From this sheltered bay situated on a private stretch of shoreline we offer both instructed sessions and boat hire.
What to expect.
- Upon arrival at Grubbins Point, please make use of our free parking before meeting one of our friendly team at our watersports hub.
- Changing cabins are available for your use.
- We'll kit you out with buoyancy aids and paddles.
- Then head to the water's edge where the canoe(s) will be ready for you.
- We'll run through the basics and answer any questions you have before helping you set off.
- How far you venture depends on your experience and the weather conditions on the day.
- All you need to do is turn up, get paddling and enjoy.
- Wetsuits aren't necessary, unless you're planning to swim. If you have your own wetsuit you're more than welcome to bring this or we have a range of sizes available to hire.
- Please note, if you're not entirely confident to hire a boat, we'd recommend one of our instructed sessions.
Guests to Graythwaite Adventure can enjoy a variety of other awesome land and water-based experiences; 4x4 off-road driving, clay pigeon shooting, archery, axe throwing, kayaking, paddleboarding, bushcraft, RIB boat tours and more.
