Ranger Patrol of Hadrian’s Wall by E-Bike

  • Location Hexham
  • Price from £30.00

Highlights

A great opportunity to patrol the northern frontier of the Roman Empire on an E-Mountain Bike with a National Park Ranger. You’ll cycle along the most iconic section of the Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site and into ‘bandit country’, where Romans dared to march!
As you cycle along quiet country lanes and byways, you’ll see and hear about this ancient landscape's turbulent past, and how in more peaceful times, sheep farming and forestry continue to shape the land today.

Itinerary

You will be welcomed to The Sill National Landscape Discovery Centre by a National Park Ranger who will introduce you to the E-bike tour, explaining the type of terrain and experience you'll encounter, and answer any questions you may have.
You'll then be provided with an E-mountain bike, which will be adjusted to fit you comfortably, with time to become familiar with the changing of gears and getting used to E-bike (a couple of safe tours around the car park).
The Ranger will then take you on a tour of the landscape south of the Wall, including an off-road section along an ancient byway, across open fields that offers outstanding views of the Tyne Valley and the North Pennines to the south, and Hadrian's Wall to the north.
You will head north towards Hadrian's Wall, where you'll stop and hear about its construction and life on the Wall and have a chance to take in the wonderful views north towards Wark Forest and Solway Coast beyond.
The return leg will follow quiet country lanes running parallel with Hadrian's Wall to Steel Rigg, where you can take photos of one of the most famous views of Hadrian's Wall before descending back to the Sill National Landscape Discovery Centre.
This 1.5 hour tour is only available to those aged 16 and above and who can ride a bike.
National Park Experiences is a curated collection that brings the stories of our National Parks to life. Each experience offers an authentic insight into the landscape and special qualities of a National Park.
