Our popular Biggar Forest School returns this spring with a 10 week block from Easter to Summer with a new day, Thursdays! Our first session will take place on Thursday 20th April and will finish Thursday 22nd June before we break for the Summer. As always, we are able to pick up from the primary school at Biggar and walk up to the woodland site. Sessions start at 3.30pm and finish at 5pm, snacks and drinks are provided, often with an exciting snack cooked over the fire at the end of the session. (Please do provide a small snack for your child when they first finish school as they are often very hungry at this time).
What is Biggar Forest School?Biggar Forest School is part of an increasingly popular movement to encourage free and wild play for children in a safe environment. Children spend weekly quality time in their local green or woodland spaces, make connections with nature, experience free play with elements of healthy risk, use tools, make nature crafts, learn useful bush craft skills and have an all round amazing time!
- The many benefits of forest school include:
- Improved relationships and social skills
- Improved health and well being
- Better physical fitness
- Improved mental health and a more positive outlook
- Improvements in fine and gross motor skills
During the sessions we have fully trained Level 3 Forest School practitioners, fully qualified outdoor first aiders and volunteers with a range of skills to help your children have a fulfilling and happy time in the woods.
At each session we have the following:
- Tree Swings
- Rope Ladders
- Hammocks
- Mud Kitchen
- Marble Run
- Den Building
- Fire Lighting
- Nature Crafts
- Games
These sessions are very popular and we anticipate sessions being fully booked so please make sure you book early to avoid disappointment.
The session will be held in the Biggar Little Quarry woods (ML12 6NP). Please ensure that children have appropriate footwear and waterproof trousers in their school bags, thank you.
If the weather is looking too cold or windy to run the session we will try and make arrangements in a local hall to run the session as a craft session or we will reschedule. Full refunds will be given if you are unable to attend the rescheduled session. Any further enquiries please contact claire@wildthingsscotland.co.uk
