Experience the adrenaline rush!Explore Cathedral Quarry - a disused Green Slate Quarry dating back to the sixteenth century close to the village of Coniston. Situated 25 minutes easy walk through picturesque woodland is this magnificent cavern and tunnels. Gifted to the National Trust by Beatrix Potter who bought the the quarry in 1929, it is preserved in its natural state offering a fascinating glimpse into our industrial heritage. After exploring the quarry we will walk up to the top where you'll see fabulous views over little Langdale then, if you dare, abseil 150 ft down into the depth of the quarry! Your experienced instructor will be on hand to offer advice and keep you safe.
We provide all the necessary safety equipment and instruction so all you need to do is sit back and enjoy the adventure!
We take photos and send them to you FREE at the end so you will have memories you'll remember forever.
Age 12 upwards. An average level of fitness is required for this activity.
Duration: 4hrs
What to bring: - A pair of sturdy trainers or walking boots
- Appropriate clothes for the weather including warm layers
- Waterproof Jacket.
- A small rucksack for your own items.
- Drink (at least 1ltr of water) and snacks if you wish.
Please note, you will need to remove any jewellery, especially rings.
We will meet you in the car park. It is a 25-minute walk to the quarry along gravel footpaths. There will be some equipment to carry which will be split between the group (bags are provided for this).
