Highlights
Edinburgh is a grand city with beautiful buildings and a very vibrant street culture, an ideal place for street photography. It has a mixture of people from all over the world who visit, add that to the architecture and its rich café bars and restaurants make it one of my favorite places to photograph and connect with people.
Edinburgh is a diverse city with a multitude of fabulous locations in quite a small and concentrated area. The busy Princes Street bustles full of shoppers and tourists whereas The Royal Mile boasts many street performers and buskers. Narrow alleyways wind between striking buildings and lead to the markets, open parks and the fabulous train station. Street photography opportunities are endless.
August dates take place during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, a superb opportunity to capture some great street portraits... Shooting at the festival is a great introduction and confidence builder to anyone new to street portraits, you will find loads of willing participants all eager to have their photos taken and happy to communicate with you which is vital to honing your skills.
Description:
This workshop is for photographers at all levels, using film or digital cameras, but also for those seeking personal development, those who want to realise their potential and especially if you’re seeking a new type of experience. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a beginner or professional, prefer shooting with a digital or analogue camera. I work with small groups, a maximum of 4, which allows me time to assess each group member and discuss what each person wants to achieve from the workshop. I teach in a practical way by showing, using straightforward, jargon free language and as the group is small you will have plenty of quality time throughout the day for one to one time with me.
What you’ll learn.
Again because group sizes are very small, I will help you on a one to one basis. I create the right environment for each person to grow. It all starts with a coffee and a chat so that I can assess your needs, from there I will help and mentor each person.
Of course you will learn various street photography techniques, but more importantly I will help you understand yourself, focus on your strengths and help you to realise your potential. The experience is character building; you will have a deeper understanding of human behavior.
I will inspire you, give you the confidence to approach people in the street and, once approached, how to connect with them instantly putting them at ease and just as importantly gaining their confidence to capture the individual's character making it a mutually rewarding experience. It’s about personal enlightenment and fulfilment. I believe that a great image is 25% photographic skill 75% human skill. I teach you how to open your eyes to photographic opportunities and to capture the essence of this beautiful city.
You will learn the art of preparation, as well as composition. You’ll be instructed as to how to capture images discreetly and openly and what to look out for. I teach in a practical way by showing, using straightforward, jargon free language.
