Highlights
My street photography workshop takes place in Manchester's’ Northern Quarter. The Northern Quarter has become a destination in its own right being the centre for alternative and bohemian culture. It is popular for its vast array of bars and cafes as well as its mix of music and clothes shops. It is also known as a home to the creative industries and in particular fashion design with various designers and clothing wholesalers populating its back streets.
As we walk around you’ll notice a network of narrow alleyways and streets with lots of street and public art. The Northern Quarter has been used as film locations for films such as the 2004 version of Alfie because of the area’s stunning architecture and in 2011 in the filming of Captain America: The First Avenger Dale Street was used as its location for 1940s New York.
Nightlife in the Northern Quarter includes music venues The Night and Day Café, Band on the Wall, the Roadhouse and The Ruby Lounge. It’s an amazing place for street photography both in the day and at night, it’s a location not to be missed.
The workshop is ideal for beginners to street photography too.
Description:
This workshop is for photographers at all levels, using film or digital cameras, but also for those seeking personal development, those who want to realise their potential and especially if you’re seeking a new type of experience. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a beginner or professional, prefer shooting with a digital or analogue camera.
I work with small groups, a maximum of 4, which allows me time to assess each group member and discuss what each person wants to achieve from the workshop. I teach in a practical way by showing, using straightforward, jargon free language and as the group is small you will have plenty of quality time throughout the day for one to one time with me.
What you’ll learn.
Again because group sizes are very small, I will help you on a one to one basis. I create the right environment for each person to grow. It all starts with a coffee and a chat so that I can assess your needs, from there I will help and mentor each person. Of course you will learn various street photography techniques, but more importantly I will help you understand yourself, focus on your strengths and help you to realise your potential.
The experience is character building; you will have a deeper understanding of human behaviour.
I will inspire you, give you the confidence to approach people in the street and, once approached, how to connect with them instantly putting them at ease and just as importantly gaining their confidence to capture the individual's character making it a mutually rewarding experience.
It’s about personal enlightenment and fulfilment. I believe that a great image is 25% photographic skill 75% human skill.
I teach you how to open your eyes to photographic opportunities and to capture the essence of this beautiful city. You will learn the art of preparation, as well as composition. You’ll be instructed as to how to capture images discreetly and openly and what to look out for. I teach in a practical way by showing, using straightforward, jargon free language.
