Highlights
Learn to navigate in the beautiful Ashridge Estate. This is a one-day navigation training course delivered on a circular walk starting and finishing at Tring Station (a 35-minute direct train from Euston). The walk is approx 14km, passing through fields woodland and small hills. It will take approx 7 hours, at a leisurely pace with plenty of stops for instruction and practice.
Itinerary
The course is designed for complete beginners or those who have done some navigation but would like to build their confidence. Topics covered will be tailored to suit the group, but will include route planning, basic map features, contours, grid references, route planning and compass bearings. Other topics such as GPS use and hiking equipment can also be covered.
Note that this is very much an outdoor course with no shelter or toilets for the majority of the route. Please come prepared with suitable outdoor clothes and footwear (the course will go ahead whatever the weather!). Please bring a packed lunch, we'll be eating in the wild! Maps and compasses will be provided.
