Highlights
Navigation is an essential building block to equip anyone for outdoor adventures. A day of good visibility might persuade others to tackle a mountain walk without a map and compass, maybe follow the crowd. But what happens when the mountain is quiet, the clouds roll in and visibility is lost, resulting in the outcome for the day to shift very quickly. A massive percentage of the UK mountain rescue call outs could have been prevented if route knowledge and navigation skills had been applied.
We’re offering an introduction to navigation within the outdoors, aimed at people with little or no navigation experience who want to kick start their journey to becoming independent in the mountains. The day will consist of reading the lay of the land, map orientation, key features, simple strategies, tips, hints, experience and knowledge within the world of navigation. Sending you away with all the skills you need to successfully map read when tackling the outdoors.
This navigation course will get the bearings oiled and give you the assessment skills whilst planning a route. Helping keep you safe and confident, when ascending into the outdoors. All in the absolutely stunning surroundings of the Langdale Pikes.
We will be meeting at the National Trust – Sticklebarn and The Langdales car park at 08:30am, aiming to commence the walk at 09:00am
