About Way Ahead Training

QUALITY ACCESSIBLE TRAINING FROM WAYAHEAD Wayahead Training was formed in the belief that Outdoor Education should be accessible to as many individuals as possible. With a particular focus on the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award we work hard to support those who wish to participate in a bronze, silver or gold programme, and teachers and other adults who want to set up or support a DofE group or become volunteer assessors and supervisors. Founder and Director Matt Hutson has been involved with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for over 25 years, as a participant and then as an assessor, supervisor and DofE Manager. He has set up several DofE centres, managed an Expedition Network and delivered many of the DofE’s training programmes across Central England and beyond. As an International Mountain Leader, Matt has planned and led numerous expeditions across 5 continents, as well as being a Technical Advisor for most forms of walking expeditions and a former Outdoor Education Advisor for a Local Authority. Matt is a course director for Mountain Training England and is primarily responsible for our educational consultancy work and the delivery of our many training programmes. Director, Mike Gray, has over 30 years’ experience of working in various instructional and management roles, including Senior Instructor and Head of Centre, within the Outdoor Sector at organisations such as Birmingham City Council, University of Derby, Ogwen Cottage, and World Challenge. A holder of the Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (MCI) Summer Award, as well as a mountain biker and paddler, Mike is also a qualified REC First Aid trainer and D of E Assessor. When not out exploring the Peak District on a bike.
