Enjoy a fun half day of abseiling, exploring and pushing your limits!
Your instructor will help you set and achieve progressive challenges, pushing yourself as much as you want to.
This active day out is suitable for adults, families and juniors with no prior experience necessary. However, we recommend that families with young children (under 10) contact us before booking to make sure everyone gets the most of this session.
The Cheesewring is Cornwall's biggest granite quarry. You may have already seen some of the stone which it has been used in loads of the local buildings and was also used as cladding on Tower Bridge in London.
Mining and quarrying has been a huge part of the industrial heritage of Bodmin moor, although now most of the pits and shafts in Cornwall are no longer active - which has left us with some brilliant vertical playgrounds to adventure in!
You will meet your instructor and the other people attending your course at the Minions Heritage Centre car park where introductions will be made and you will be issued with some basic kit (helmet and harness) which we will ask you to carry with you on the walk in.
The walk into the quarry takes 20 minutes along an un-metalled track that can often be wet and muddy.
Once at the quarry your instructor will give you all a safety brief and get you kitted up, checking that all your equipment is properly fitted.
They will then provide training (or a refresher for those who have abseiled before) on how to abseil safely.
Now for the fun part! After some training (or a refresher for those who’ve done it before) on how to abseil safely, you will have the opportunity...” to complete a succession of abseils from small to big, pushing your comfort zone as far as you want to.
TICKET OPTIONS and UNDER 18's:
UNDER 18'S MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY THEIR PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN THROUGHOUT THE SESSION.
- If the accompanying parent or legal guardian does not want to abseil, they will not need their own ticket.
- If the accompanying parent or legal guardian wants to abseil too, they must purchase their own ticket (ticket name; Adult).
