Linking Landscapes to Your Curriculum: Outdoor Learning Conference - Friday 7 June

  • Location Newburgh Priory, Coxwold, York, Y061 4AS
  • Price from £0.00

Highlights

9:00 - 16:15

The Ryevitalise Landscape Partnership invite KS1&2 teachers to attend our FREE one-day outdoor learning conference, ‘Linking Landscapes to Your Curriculum’ at Newburgh Priory on Friday 7th June. This event will be delivered in partnership with the Howardian Hills National Landscape.

Together we have created this opportunity for teachers and education providers to share engaging ways to connect landscape and the curriculum both in and outside of the classroom, facilitating life-changing experiences for students. There is strong evidence to suggest that connecting young people with the natural world is beneficial to educational outcomes, wellbeing, and pro-environmental behaviours aiding in nature recovery.

Whilst the conference is principally aimed at KS1&2 teachers, we welcome and encourage secondary teachers to attend the event as an opportunity to connect with local schools and learning providers.

What’s included:
Refreshments and lunch, keynote speakers and workshops, lesson plans and resources, networking opportunities, information about grants and support.

Keynotes Speakers:
  • The Howardian Hills National Landscape - How your local National Landscape can help your learning environment.

  • The Council for Learning Outside the Classroom - Championing learning beyond the classroom through practical support, sharing of best practice and promoting the benefits of outdoor learning in raising attainment and aspirations.

  • National Education Nature Parks - Starting the journey of understanding and enhancing nature in school grounds.

  • Linking the Environment and Farming (LEAF) Education - How to bring food production, farming and the environment into learning contexts and opportunities to get out onto local farms.

If you do not sign-up to specific workshops, you will be allocated workshops to attend on the day.

About Us:

The Ryevitalise Landscape Partnership is a project with over fifteen partners, made possible with the National Lottery Heritage Fund, delivering nature recovery across 413 km² of the western River Rye catchment. The partnership works together to connect local communities to conserve, enhance and restore the River Rye and its tributaries, reconnecting people to the history, wildlife and landscapes of the surrounding area.

The Ryevitalise project area flows from the headwaters of the Rye catchment, high on the westerly moorlands of the North York Moors National Park, extends to key tributaries including the River Seph and the River Riccal, and meanders through a variety of landscapes into the Howardian Hills National Landscape (previously known as Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The Howardian Hills National Landscape stretches from Helmsley (where it adjoins the North York Moors) south-west, to Howsham on the River Derwent, just over 10 miles from York.

We really hope you can join us for an inspiring day!
