Join us for an instructional kayaking session on a fantastic stretch of calm water on the River Yeo.
Before you get on the water we run through all aspects of safety, including what to do if you fall in. We don’t make you capsize, but if it happens by accident you will know what to do! Of course we provide all safety equipment; buoyancy aids, helmets, windproof jackets etc and you will have an instructor on the water at all times. At first you will feel unsure but by a tried and tested method of coaching, games and a bit of silliness your confidence will grow, along with your control skills. Kayaking can be tough, especially in windy conditions, so we have a minimum age limit of 9.
And just to clarify in case you're totally new to it: A canoe is traditionally paddled by American Indians, kneeling in it and using a single bladed paddle. A kayak is traditionally paddled by Eskimos, sitting in it and using a double bladed paddle. We use kayaks.

This adventure is perfect for individuals and small groups, and can be tailored for:

  • Families
  • Hen / Stag parties
  • School groups

Day 1

You will be met by your instructor who will issue you with all the equipment you will need. We then show you the best way to use the paddle, and how to escape the boat in case of a capsize! Then it's on to the water for a fun splash around and learn some paddle strokes, play a few games and generally get used to how the boat can respond to your commands. If you're feeling super confident or want to learn some more skills we can show you some rescue techniques - but you will get wet!
