Highlights

Curator’s Talk on Quaker Tapestry Museum’s new exhibition on George Fox, the English Civil Wars and the Beginnings of Quakerism

Quaker Tapestry Museum is celebrating the 400th Anniversary of George Fox’s birth with this year’s special exhibition Sing and Rejoice: George Fox, the English Civil Wars and the Beginnings of Quakerism, including loans from Friends House and Swarthmoor Hall and reproductions from the State Papers at The National Archives.

Amid the background of the English Civil Wars, many groups began to reconsider the role of the established church in their religious lives. Sing and Rejoice explores this time of great turmoil and persecution, but also of change and hope for the future.

In this talk, Curator Francesca Vine will be looking at the broader historical context behind the exhibition, examining other petition entries from the State Papers at The National archives and looking at members of the Valiant Sixty in greater depth.
