As public awareness of the benefits of animal-assisted interventions increases and more providers are looking to set up programmes, there is an ever growing need to ensure a consistent, responsible and safe approach to these interventions.
Victoria is a Senior Camelidynamics Consultant, a qualified counsellor and has worked as a paramedic and in-service counsellor for over 30 years. She has combined her knowledge and drawn on her experience in both areas of working with people and animals to create the course that she wanted when she first considered entering the "therapeutic " realm.
The three day course is aimed at alpaca and llama owners who have an interest in working with their animals in Animal Assisted Activities (AAA) for the well-being of others. It does not allow you to offer or call your activities "therapy". In order to call any animal activity "therapy" the handler must have a recognised qualification that would allow them to offer therapy in the absence of the animal.
You will leave with knowledge of the history of animal interventions, of the practical application of Camelidynamics handling skills, practical, legal and ethical considerations in programme planning and some ideas about how to work alongside alpacas for the physical and psychological benefit of others.
The course is delivered in a mix of theory and animal practicals.
