Coastal Sea Kayak Award 
Is this for you?
Are you already an independent sea kayaker who would like to expand your paddling into the moderate sea environment? 
Do you have plenty of experience in a sea kayak? 
Do you have the ability to roll (from a set-up position) in flat conditions?
Do you already hold the British Canoeing Sea Kayak Award or are you paddling at that level? 
Would you like the choice of; two, three or four-day Coastal Sea Kayak Award courses? 
What to expect: 
Your Coastal Sea Kayak Award endorses your judgment, decision making and expertise and requires a good understanding of paddling on the sea. You should be confident planning and undertaking journeys on the sea in winds up to and including force 4 and/or tides up to 2 Knots, in a sea kayak or specific sit on tops in tidal or non-tidal environments. We take the idea of you being a fully independent paddler and expand it into the moderate sea environment. We will focus on safety, rescues and all the skills you require to comfortably control your kayak in winds up to Force 4, surf up to 1m and tidal flows up to 2 knots. This Award is appropriate pre-training for British Canoeing Sea Kayak Leader Training (If you feel you are still gaining these skills then we recommend booking onto one of our longer intermediate courses and letting us know you wish to cover the Coastal Sea Kayak Award syllabus as part of the course.) 
What we will cover:
• Trip planning; tide, currents, weather and other environmental factors. • Building on our situational awareness and decision making. • Paddling your kayak efficiently; development of more complex paddling techniques and coping strategies for moderate conditions. • Rock hopping, kayaking in wind up to Force 4, surf up to 1m and tidal flow up to 2 knots (conditions dependant). • More complex rescues, towing, self-rescues and rolling in moderate conditions. • Map and chart reading skills including deck-top navigation.
