When you turn up at Dol Peris, our guesthouse for the weekend, it will be hard not to take a breather from everyday life as the glimpses of mountain views and the sounds of the stream trundling through the village of Llanberis both work their magic.
Feel free to arrive at the guesthouse any time after 5pm when your host will be there to meet you, introduce you to the other guests and show you to your room.
After that, all you need do is grab a cup of tea and settle into the weekend until 6.30pm when it’s time to grab your exercising togs with our first hour-long yoga session that will shrug off any stresses. Please note you will need to bring your own yoga mat.
By 8pm the guesthouse will be alive with the hum of chatter coming from relaxed guests as we serve the first of our evening feasts and look out at the mountain views.
If you’re an early bird and want to start the day with some stretching then there’s a 7am beginners’ yoga session that will set you up for the day’s adventures.
An alternative tonic could be a quick pre-breakfast stroll through the village or feel free to lie-in until breakfast.
Afterwards we head out for a day’s walking with a route that can be as easy or as challenging as the group wants. However we aim to stay at a low level and explore the fantastically varied scenery that can encompass anything from valleys, woodland, coast and some small hills.
There will be one walk on offer today and to give you an idea here are some sample routes:
Nant Gwynant and Beddgelert – Starting from the achingly beautiful village of Beddgelert there’s an undulating trail that snakes its way through the valley alongside rivers and lakes, and gently climbs up the flanks of the surrounding hills.
As you stroll along you’ll forget the miles being covered as the expansive views down the Nant Gwynant valley open up and you marvel at the majestic beauty of Snowdon itself.
Moel Siabod – This hill lies in splendid isolation from the other main peaks in North Wales and is all the better for that as it remains less of a honeypot for walkers and yet offers beautiful walking.
With good tracks and views aplenty, Moel Siabod is a great introduction to hill walking with just the right amount of challenge that pushes people without it being a scary route march.
Forests of Betws-y-Coed – The village of Betws-y-Coed is surrounded by forest and low undulating hills, speckled with lakes, streams and waterfalls. With umpteen trails offering plenty of choice for a day’s exploring, it lives up to its reputation as a walker’s paradise.
Saturday afternoon onwards Once back at the guesthouse, there’s plenty of downtime before a restorative yoga session (purely optional) that will ease your muscles after the day’s exertions.
Then we pull out the stops to serve a dinner that will amply replete the appetites of the ravenous and leave everybody feeling satisfied with their day’s activities, no doubt with the odd story or two being told!
Take advantage of the final yoga session, this time at 8am so you can have a lie-in, to leave you feeling energised for the day ahead.
Today we seek out some of the more hidden, quieter parts of the Snowdonia National Park for a gentle stroll.
In the warmer months there’s also the option (at additional cost) of taking to the water at Llyn Padarn. This glacially-formed lake close to Llanberis has gobsmacklingly-gorgeous views and the opportunity to try out stand-up paddle boarding or kayaking with all gear supplied.
After all this activity we make a beeline for a local café for lunch (not included in the price) for a final meal together before heading home.
You’ll be working up a sweat. Bring along a touch of enthusiasm and a little determination
