Highlights
British Canoeing Advanced Sea Kayak Leader Assessment
What to expect…
The assessment will run for two days and two evenings (1 evening looking at a navigation exercise and the other carrying out a night navigation exercise). We do also offer a one-to-one assessment; these assessments will run over a single day (or a second day if needed to find appropriate conditions in the range of environments) and 2 evenings (1 evening looking at a navigation exercise and the other carrying out a night navigation exercise). Please contact us to arrange a one-to-one assessment.
In addition to demonstrating appropriate personal paddling skills; candidates will be asked to be involved in a variety of tasks. These will include; leading a group of kayakers on a suitable day’s journey in an Advanced Tidal environment, managing problems and rescues as needed, navigating the group during the day and night and journey planning including the tidal environment.
We structure our assessments to ensure all candidates are provided with the opportunity to perform to the best of their ability. To help alleviate the inherent pressures tied in with assessments; we work to make sure the two days are fair, clear, and delivered in a relaxed yet structured way. Prior to joining the course all candidates will be sent a pre-course information pack. This will include details outlining the structure of the assessment and the required prerequisites, (including the Candidate Leadership Registration form, available from B.C. online).
The minimum number of participants to run the assessment is one for a single day one-to-one assessment or two for a two-day assessment.
