Alpaca Keeper Experience - Half Day

  • Location Axminster
  • Price from £65.00

Highlights

All the best bits from our fantastic Alpaca Keeper Experience Day condensed into a morning. This is the perfect gift for any alpaca lover, where you can really get to know each alpaca in our herd and find out what it is like to look after these amazing animals. We guarantee fun, learning and plenty of alpaca antics!

We run our Alpaca Keeper Days to demand - the booking calendar shows dates where we have spaces remaining but we can run new Alpaca Keeper Days both on weekdays or weekends. Please send an enquiry if you have a date or two in mind you would like to book.

The Day:
Start at 9.30am
We start with a welcome to the farm and dive right into the fun!
First an introduction to each herd group and individual alpacas whilst we carry out some of the daily alpaca husbandry tasks, including: feeding, checking water & hay and herd checks.
Followed by an alpaca care task of the day, this could be anything from weighing and condition checks, giving vitamins, pregnancy checks or many other things, it all depends on the season and what needs doing!
Mid-morning break - Scones, Cream, Jam and a hot or cold drink to keep you going!
After our break we will take a leisurely Alpaca Walk though the orchard to spend more time with our boys. This is also a great chance to help with some halter training for any youngsters in training.
We may also have other jobs such as herding alpacas to different grazing, cooling them all down the hose or giving them some willow branches - whatever we get up to you are sure to have a real immersive alpaca experience!

Price:
Half Day Alpaca Keeper experience (9.30am - 1pm): £65 per person, with a minimum of two people attending to run the day. Maximum group size of six people.

Additional Information:
Our Alpaca Keeper days are also ideal for those considering keeping alpacas and would like an introduction to them, before embarking on a full husbandry course - let us know if this is the case and we can run a separate session and run an Introduction to Alpaca Keeping full or half day, with a bit more emphasis on learning all the basics.
Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements or allergies.
This experience day is aimed at adults, however we can run an Alpaca Keeper Day for ages 14+ with a minimum of one adult also attending.

Wellies or boots and trousers are a must as it can be muddy and it is important to keep feet and legs protected at all times.
Layers and rain jackets or waterproofs – dress for the weather!
Other weather protection – think sun cream, insect repellent, hats and gloves.
We provide drinks and refreshments, but it is a good idea to bring along a bottle of water to keep hydrated.
