If you’re keen to experience winter walking in the mountains, while taking a trip up the very highest peak in Wales, this trip is just right! With an experienced Winter Mountain Leader and a friendly group of fellow walkers we’re off for the weekend to summit Snowdon (1085m), and have another full day out up another mountain in the area on the Sunday. Winter walking requires a whole new set of skills, needed to negotiate the ice, snow, and cold winter can bring. But in return, you’re rewarded with crystal clear air, incredible views over the peaks transformed by the snow, and an experience only a few people have shared. If you haven’t been up Snowdon before, expect incredible views over the whole of North Wales and over the Irish Sea. Together we’ll share a hot drink on the summit before returning down to a great celebratory meal. The route we’ll take up Snowdon will be decided by the conditions at the time, but the Sunday walk will most likely be in the Glyderau. These peaks lie across the Llanberis Pass from Snowdon, and aside from being excellent walking peaks in themselves provide a great view back at Snowdon! This trip is fine for winter beginners, as your leader will be able to provide instruction when needed on how to use any different equipment, or how to handle the snow. However, we do advise you to have at least average fitness to get the most out of the day.

Check in at our accommodation is from 5pm, where you’ll be welcomed by a Large Outdoors host and meet your walking companions. There are several options for a drink nearby or you can relax in the lounge with a hot drink, which are provided through the weekend. Dinner is served at 8pm.
Your leader will consider the weather and snow conditions and choose a route suitable for the group. If the weather on Saturday is worse than Sunday we may well decide to save Snowdon for Sunday and choose a different route for today, perhaps heading somewhere where you can practice using crampons, or a more sheltered mountain.
After returning to the accommodation, there’ll be time to relax before we head out to dinner in a local pub.
After checking out of the accommodation, we’ll head out for another day in the winter mountains. If we have saved Snowdon for today then that’s where we’ll head! If we tackled Snowdon on Saturday then your leader will choose a different peak for you to aim for, showing you a different part of the National Park. Wherever you end up, it’ll be another great day out in the mountains.
We aim for the day to finish at around 4pm.
You’ll be working up a sweat. Bring along a touch of enthusiasm and a little determination
