Lead climbing is the obvious, natural progression route in climbing from use of fixed ropes or from Bouldering.. Being able to lead climb not only adds an extra dimension, but simply opens up a greater number of routes. This is especially true of big overhanging walls which are not easily protected by top-ropes and auto-belays. This course is all about raising and training awareness and preventing avoidable incidents.
Lead climbing brings extra risk, so before embarking on this stage of your climbing journey, it is sensible to learn how to lead climb properly. How to clip, when to clip, when to squeeze in those tactical rests and how to fall. You will also need to know how to belay a leader and how to hold a leader fall. These are all essential parts of an indoor learn to lead course. Additionally we will train you to understand the forces involved in falling and how far you could fall if you or the belayer isn’t paying full attention.
