The Goyt Valley half-day ride around Fernilee Reservoir, 11km
This great, little, varied route is predominantly off-road and is a lovely introduction to mountain biking. The uphills are short but some may be too steep to ride; the downhills are generally fairly gentle. The route circumnavigates Fernilee Reservoir in the beautiful Goyt Valley.
The ride starts from The Street car park in the Goyt Valley. There are no facilities here.
We will start with a quick 'M check' of our bikes and a chat about riding techniques, including gears, braking and riding position. After chatting through the route, we will set off. The route follows a forestry track high above Fernilee Reservoir before dropping down to the low point of the ride and then climbing back up for views across the Goyt Valley. Although the ride is short, it is packed with hills, both up and down! There are some rough sections too but they can be walked, if necessary.
Fitness Level 2/3
Overall Challenge 2/3
On the route we can talk about how to plan your own cycling adventures, looking at navigation, equipment, rights of way, safety and more.
You will need a good level of fitness for this ride; experience of riding off-road would be beneficial but not essential.
