Adventure Highlights

Navigation skills form the foundation of all journeys into the wild and open the door to the freedom of being in nature. Learn how to use a map and compass and gain the confidence to navigate even in poor visibility so that you can enjoy the freedom of being in the hills. Two full days of walking and practical navigation in the beautiful Peak District, we'll cover about 15km each day and wild camp out on the hill on Saturday night. This is a fantastic way to build a solid foundation of essential skills for future adventures, all the while learning in a safe and structured environment.

Adventure Details

Day 1

Start time 09:00

Meet at Hathersage station in Derbyshire on Saturday morning. We'll cover 15km whilst practising key skills:

  • Route planning
  • Interpreting contours and key symbols on the map
  • Navigating in poor or limited visibility
  • Use of the compass
  • Re-orientating yourself if you do get lost
  • Navigating and movement over steep ground?
  • Weather and how the weather affects route planning
  • Emergency procedures
We'll break for a picnic lunch half-way through the day and finish the day by setting up camp in a wild and remote location.

Day 2

Wake up, have breakfast around the camp before setting off for another 15km trek, learning and practising more key skills. We'll end up at Edale station in Derbyshire on Sunday afternoon.

What you'll need to bring

  • Other Worn in walking boots which are comfortable on your feet Warm clothing and a hat for night time. Water bottle and energy bars if you need them Overnight stuff You will carry all your kit with you, including camping equipment so your pack will weigh about 10kg.

Strict - Cancel up to 31 days before your adventure to recieve a 75% refund

Cancelling less than 30 days before results in no refund.

Refund excludes processing fees. Alternate dates may be able to be agreed at no additional cost, but this is not guaranteed.
