Crib Goch, the ‘red ridge’, is one of Britain’s most popular scrambles, and for good reason. A mile-long narrow ridge, reaching out from the north-east flank of Snowdon, this beautiful rocky route gives you views over the whole of North Wales and the Irish Sea, and of course up to the highest summit in Wales! If Crib Goch is something you’ve always wanted to do but don’t want to worry about the route finding, while having the support of a great leader and a friendly group, then this is the way to do it. Our focus for the day is the majestic ridge itself, returning you down to earth via an easier trail, to complete an exceptional day on Crib Goch, and of course, reaching the summit of Snowdon as well. In a small team of no more than 6 of you, our guides will ensure you get the most from this day. Scrambling can probably best be described as adventurous walking. The routes are rocky, you should expect to use your hands now and then, and there will be some exposure. You’ll want a good head for heights and the ability to think about where you are putting your feet. Although Crib Goch is at the easier end of the scrambling spectrum (they are rated 1-3), there are drops on both sides of the ridge. Of course, our leader will give you the top tips on how to more efficiently over the terrain! Although no previous experience is necessary, we recommend a good level of fitness, so you can enjoy the day without being too tired. Although we will do all we can to support you over Crib Goch, our leaders do reserve the right to ask you to drop out if they are worried about your ability to complete the day, as once on the ridge there are very limited options to choose alternative routes or cut the day short!

We’ll meet up in Llanberis at 09:00 for an 09:15 start to take the bus (£2) up to Pen y Pass. From here Crib Goch is an unmistakeable pyramid of rock visible right ahead! We ascend the East Ridge, head along the famous traverse, and finish with the scramble up Crib y Ddysgl to Garnedd Ugain. The full route includes three ‘Grade 1’ scrambles.
Once the scrambles are done, it’s a simple walk the last few hundred metres to the summit of Snowdon. We return down via the straightforward Llanberis Path, allowing you time to take in your achievement and enjoy the views.
A note on the weather: Crib Goch is not somewhere you want to be in bad weather, especially heavy rain or strong wind. If the weather is such that we decide it would be dangerous to attempt the scrambles, our leader will come up with an alternative day walk in the area.
You’ll be working up a sweat. Bring along a touch of enthusiasm and a little determination
