Climb the limestone crags of the Swanage Coast. A Weekend of Rock Climbing in a beautiful setting. Duration: Two days, one night Being only a short journey from London, Dorset is one of the finest and closest climbing destinations to the south east. The Limestone cliffs of the Swanage coast stretch for some 3 miles and offer a bewildering array of climbing routes. Coastal scenery and routes are spectacular and with some of the driest and warmest climates in the UK, Dorset is one of the most consistent year round climbing venues. All routes are bolted with good stainless resin anchors and lower off points, making climbing safe and enjoyable. Whether you are a seasoned high climbing professional, a self-taught enthusiast or a complete beginner, Dorset has plenty to get your teeth into.

Adventure Details

Day 1

Start time 10:00

From our base in Swanage we will find our feet at Dancing Ledge, which offers a variety of routes from small safe climbs, to some formidable and more challenging sea cliff climbs. Think spectacular scenery, craggy rocks and crashing waves alongside some exhilarating climbing.
The highly qualified and experienced instructors will deliver the course in a relaxed fashion giving you the skills to climb the limestone edges safely and confidently. The skills taught during this course are:
Belaying Knot tying Use of correct equipment Injury prevention Movement Skills Climbing techniques
A picnic lunch will be served near the rock face on Saturday followed by a evening barbecue at the campsite on Saturday night.

Day 2

We will continue with the client-specific coaching on Sunday addressing any needs or wants that you have.
Sunday's venue will be chosen the day before considering weather and client needs to ensure everyone gets the best possible experience. If the venue and weather suits after our morning session we will enjoy a pastie and a pint at the famous Square and Compass pub in Worth Matravers after a bracing walk along the stunning coastal path.

Inclusions

No-frills Accommodation

We'll be camping during the trip. We provide a tent for each person along with a sleeping bag and good quality Thermarest sleeping mat. We provide camp chairs to sit around our campfire during the evening

  • Transportation We are happy to collect you from Wareham station and drop you off there again at the end of the trip.
  • Food Day one's picnic is the Wilderness Weekends lunch special consisting of wraps with olives, fine cheese, home-roasted veg, chips, dips, homemade flapjacks and hot drinks. That evening we cook up a BBQ for dinner. Breakfast provided on Sunday morning and then pastie and a pint in the pub after the day's climbing.
  • Drink A kettle will be on the go for hot drinks whenever we are at the campsite and we will bring a camping stove to provide hot drinks during the day while we're climbing.
  • Equipment All climbing equipment except climbing shoes. Tents and sleeping mats (one each) along with a large tipi tent in which to hide from any sort of weather

What you'll need to bring

  • Warm Clothing The evenings can get cool when there is a clear sky. Make sure you bring a warm jacket and some extra layers
  • Waterproofs Bring a rain jacket in case the weather turns. We would also suggest you bring either waterproof shoes/trainers/boots or something like flip flops as the grass tends to be wet in the morning no matter what the weather.
  • Food If you are a snacker and think you'll struggle to survive till the next meal you should bring something simple to prevent crankyness or the dreaded h'anger.
  • Drink Most people like to have a few drinks around the campfire on Saturday evening. We'll have the kettle on but feel free to bring a few of whatever is your poison for yourself.
  • Camping Equipment There are cushions around he camp but if you know you need a massive pillow to get a decent night's sleep then we'd suggest bringing one
  • Other Small rucksack to carry your personal kit to the crags Water bottle Any personal medication necessary like asthma inhalers or epi-pens Sun cream and sun hat if it's forecast hot A fleecy and beanie if it's forecast cold
