The Honister Extreme Via Ferrata is the longest route and usually takes around 3-3.5 hours. We will meet you in the reception at Honister Slate Mine (see map below) and then get kitted up with harnesses, helmets, and lanyards. The start of the Via Ferrata is a short 10-minute walk through a section of the mine. After this, the side of Fleetwith Pike opens up and the route becomes visible. It does require a reasonable level of fitness. Please contact us for more information regarding this.
ItineraryThe Extreme route shares the same start as the Classic route, but then it crosses the Burma Bridge (wire bridge). It then takes a tenuous line up the rocky ridge on the other side, with a section of cargo net to finish. We use our lanyards to clip to the steel cable that runs from bottom to top. Iron ‘staples’ and sections of ladders have been installed to make progress easier.
