A Mystical Nature Exploration of The North York Moors

Let us take you on paths less trodden to reveal stunning scenery and one of the best views of a spectacular, monastic site. Hidden in a breathtaking valley, Rievaulx Abbey and it's natural surroundings is a feast for the eyes. Fringed by ancient woodlands rich in plant life, the location is a nature-lovers heaven.
You'll walk where monks once trod. Discover why they chose to base themselves deep in the North York Moors away from civilisation. You'll experiment walking in contemplative silence in places - a bit like a monk would have done.
Part of their practise involved being aware of everything around them, including the natural world. They were deeply connected with their environment and held it with reverence. Here's an opportunity to sample a bit of what that might have been like, while immersing yourself in nature.
And after soaking up the calm atmosphere, we're sure you'll leave feeling amazing.

Itinerary

After all the introductions and information about the day, we'll set off slowly. Walking on quieter paths, we'll stop from time to take in the views and to explore a bit of mindfulness.
Close to Rievaulx, we'll have lunch. If you want to visit the abbey, there will be time to do that too (see below for how to book tickets).
Meandering our way back, we'll walk past ancient fishponds developed by the monks. And along quiet, tree-lined droveways, undoubtedly once walked by members of this ancient community.
We’ll spend moments throughout the walk, absorbing the peace and quiet while we take in the natural beauty around us. A bit like how a monk would have done.

WALK LENGTH: 7 miles long. GRADIENT: there are hills in this walk and flat ground TERRAIN: mainly good paths but they can get muddy and the surface uneven.
TICKETS FOR THE ABBEY You can 'add on' tickets to visit the abbey when you book. Prices are: £11 (adults) and £6.60 (teenagers 14 - 17). These are subject to availability. If tickets are not available because the abbey is full, we'll refund you.
