Sea kayaking weekends in the the Isle of Wight coached and hosted by Owen Burson and Martin Lanzinger - Both British Canoeing qualified Sea Kayak coaches. These weekends are suitable for beginners and paddlers looking to develop their sea kayaking skills. Owen will pick up everyone at the ferry and drive us around during the weekend so no need to pay for car ferry crossings. All equipment and accommodation is included. We will be camping (tents provided), paddling, eating at some of the traditional country pubs and socialising. Arrivals are on the Friday evening and departure on the Sunday. This is a good opportunity to work with the same coaches over a period of time progressing your skills. The island offers calm waters, lots of flow, rough water, tide races, surf and lots more. Owen will also work on navigation during the sea kayaking weekends.
Owen is a senior British Canoeing coach who has trained many of us and knows where to get the best for the group in the island. Martin will be looking after you and giving you the confidence to push yourself. If you want progressive development with supportive and experienced coaches in an environment that offers the right challenge, this is something that will suit you.
The price includes all your kayaking equipment including wetsuit & cag, kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, instructors, local transport in the van and camping. If you prefer to stay in accommodation, we will recommend where to book so you are nearby and will give you a discount on the price.
Day 1Arrival at the Isle of Wight. Owen will be waiting at the ferry terminal and will drive the group to the campsite. After setting up the tents, we will walk to a nearby pub for dinner and a social. We will discuss the aims of the weekend and what participants aim to achieve.
Day 2After breakfast, Owen will take the group to the best spot to start our sea kayaking skills development session. The island offers many types of environments so the weekend is open to paddlers with a range of skills and experiences. After the session, we will return to the campsite to shower and rest. We will meet at the pub for dinner, to review the day and plan for the Sunday.
Day 3Depending on the objectives of the group and the weather, the coaches will take the group to a suitable launching spot to start the day. The group may work on different skills depending on the overall and personal levels. Things like paddling in flow or waves, planning, surfing or doing a day trip may be suitable. The day will finish at about 3pm and Owen will take everyone to the ferry port for the 5:30pm ferry.
