Highlights
In Spring the islands come alive with new lambs and calves, the first sounds of the cuckoo can be heard and the bluebells start to appear. The sea temperature is slowly rising but is still only 8 degrees so our dips will be relatively short. You should be able to tread water and have some experience of cold water swimming.
A highlight in April is the arrival of the puffins to the Treshnish Isles. We take a boat trip out to Staffa first to see Fingal's Cave and then on to Lunga, a special protection area for the conservation of wild birds. Puffins stay with the same partner for life, returning at this time of year for the breeding season. They knock their bills together to reaffirm bonds and return to the same burrow each year collecting wild flowers and grass to make their nests and prepare for their "pufflings".
