Would you like the choice of; two, three or four-day Sea Kayak Award courses?
What to expect:
The Sea Kayak Award endorses your skill, judgment and the decision making required for a successful day on the sea. We will look at planning and undertaking journeys on the ocean, in winds up to and including force 3 and or tides up to 1 Knot, using sea kayaks or sit on tops, in tidal or non-tidal environments, with proficient skills to be in control throughout. Over the two, three and four-day course we will observe and develop your skills. If you are at the appropriate level then we will award you with the Sea Kayak Award. (If you feel you are still gaining these skills then we recommend booking onto one of our longer intermediate courses and letting us know you wish to cover the Sea Kayak Award syllabus as part of the course.)
What we will cover:
• Trip planning; tide, weather and other environmental factors. • Building on our situational awareness and decision making. • Paddling your kayak efficiently; development of more complex paddling techniques such as bow-rudders and bracing. • Rock hopping, wind up to Force 3, surf up to 0.5m and gentle tide races (conditions dependant). • Simple peer rescues, towing and self-rescues. • Map and chart reading skills including deck-top navigation.
