About Landscape Lore

Explore the world of the Scottish Highlands through lore that has been hidden in the landscapes for centuries, hear the echoes of bardic song and discover tales of belonging and home. The landscapes here in Badenoch are characterised by the Monadhliath Mountains and the Cairngorms National Park; A natural beauty of rolling hills, serene valleys, heather covered expanses and an abundance of glistening and ever-changing waters. The vast ensemble of meandering rivers, floodplains, lochs and marshes not only inspired the region’s name, derived from the Gaelic name Bàideanach, meaning ‘the drowned lands’, but also presents a living landscape in the most discernible way, through the dynamic element of water. Beyond its visible splendor, Badenoch’s landscapes hold untold stories and hidden narratives, waiting to be discovered by the discerning explorer. Landscapes are a personal connection and perception of a land, achieved through the blend of political, social and economic history, as well as the colourful characters of tales, lore and oral stories and our personal memories. Embodying a timeless connection between the past, present, and future, Badenoch’s landscapes encapsulate living heritage, constantly expressing time through space. They serve as a profound link to our collective history, a reassurance of personal identity, and an endless source of inspiration. Uncover the essence of Badenoch and the Highlands as you journey through these landscapes, where time, space, and nature intertwine in perfect harmony and form a promise for the future.
